What is a mood board?

I believe that a mood board is a vital tool for expressing your visual style of photography. In getting to know the client or couple, a mood board gives me a better understanding of their style and vision for their upcoming photoshoot.

A mood board can be an inspiration board on which clients can display their ideas through a collage of their favourite images. They can comment on what they like about each image, whether they love the angle, the pose, the lighting, or any other element of the photo. This allows them to visually convey any concepts and style preferences that they have.

Pinterest is a useful and convenient tool for creating mood boards. Clients can pin photos directly from my website, or images that they have come across they love.

Once the mood board is created, I usually ask my clients to send me the URL to their Pinterest board via email. After I review their mood board, I set up a video Skype call, giving us the opportunity to review the mood board together before the photo shoot.

Another great use of a mood board is to pin all your wedding day inspirations; it would give the photographer a sense of the style and mood that you envision for your wedding day.
